NYCUDL January Debate Educators Conference (DebateCon XI) has ended
Monday, January 28 • 1:00pm - 1:45pm
Let’s Talk about Race, Ethnicity and Debate

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

As coaches, we address challenging topics when we research, study and practice with our debaters. Race and ethnicity are embedded in daily discourse and play significant roles in how we interpret inequality, discrimination and implicit bias within our society. The Let’s talk about Race, Ethnicity and Debate workshop will give us the opportunity to use Critical Race Theory (CRT), cultural awareness and positionality to unpack how we understand, embrace and teach race and ethnicity in our debate environments. We will discuss NYCUDL Parliamentary topics, participate in interactive activities and critically examine the dangers of a single story and the power of diverse narratives. Everyone is welcome to learn and exchange methods that assist in addressing racial diversity in debate!
